What are you expecting?

(4.08E-3) * (1.4E-1) = 5.712E-4 -- Without precision considerations.

4.08*1.4 = 5.712
-3 -1 = -4

did you type it in your calculator like i did? i got 5.712E-4. how do you get your answer?

The tutor got the same answer you did, and explained the process by taking the multiplication "apart" (doing the numbers separately from the precision indicators).

Since you do not seem to be aware of this, it would appear that you have not yet learned about scientific notation, nor about how your calculator handles the notation. It would probably be wise to study some web lessons on the topic, and then review the section in your calculator's owners manual explaining the "EE" button, etc.
