How do I put this problem into an equation.

The theater was packed with 430 people. There are 40 more women the there are men. How many women are there?

Follow the usual process.

You need to find a value which is currently unknown, so you will need a variable.

You need to solve for a number, so you will need an equation.

You have two inputs: men and women. Women are defined in terms of men, so pick a variable for the men. Then create an expression, in terms of this variable, for the women.

You are given the sum of these inputs, and asked to solve for the inputs. So sum the variable and the expression, set this sum equal to the given total, and solve for the variable.

Then re-read the exercise, and make sure you provide an answer to the question actually asked. (In this case, provide the number of women, not the value of a variable.)

If you get stuck, please reply showing how far you have gotten. Thank you! :D
