In November, Hilary drove 580 miles in her car. The car travelled 33.5 miles for each gallon of petrol used. Petrol cost 1.09 per litre. One gallon = 4.55 litres. Work out the cost of the petrol the car used in November.

Solution

[Total distance ÷ miles for each gallon + amount of litres per gallon] times cost per litre.

[580/(33.5) + 4.55](1.09)

Correct set up?

In which case you'd be right.

Again, note that proofreading is an essential part of setting up the right equation.
