Odd question -- there's no y in a quadratic equation with those solutions, and there are many different equations with the same two solutions! If the software asking this question can't handle spaces, how is it going to handle alternative answers? My guess is that they are assuming "Alfredo" followed a very specific procedure that they have demonstrated, but which you haven't shown us, and that the equation had integer coefficients.

But R.M. is right about how to approach it. What factors would lead to those solutions?
