I do not know why these 2 problems are an obstacle but I could use the help.

Thanks,
BRC

#1. Solve for x
1000=1102.5/(1+x)^2

#2. Solve for x
1/4=(x-3)^2

> 1000=1102.5/(1+x)^2

1102.5 / (x^2 + 2x +1) = 1000 ; ok?

1000(x^2 + 2x +1) = 1102.5 ; still with me?

x^2 + 2x +1 = 1102.5 / 1000

x^2 + 2x +1 = 1.1025 : wrap it up!

> 1/4=(x-3)^2

x^2 - 6x + 9 = 1/4

4x^2 - 24x + 36 = 1

All yours...if you're still lost, means you need a talk with your teacher.

Thanks for the reply Denis. I got everything you wrote but what about solving for the value of x?

That would be the "all yours" part. Let's see what you can do.

Got it! I had a total lapse in memory. I ended up using the quadratic equation. Thanks for the push.
