negative exponents: solve 2(-2 exponent) + 5(-2 exponent)

This is what I came up with!

1/2(2) + 1/5(2)=
1/4 + 1/25=
25/100 + 4/100=
29/100

I hope the instructions were actually to "simplify the expression", because there is no "equation" (something with an "equals" sign inside it) to solve. :shock:

I think you mean the expression, in standard formatting, to be the following:

. . . . .2^(-2) + 5^(-2)

If so, then your simplification is correct. Good work! :D
