English is not my first language. What do they mean by "primitive mathematical concepts" in this context?

They essentially defined it for you! Primitive mathematical concepts are concepts that are so intuitively evident that one does not question their validity.

The word "primitive" here means "not derived from anything else". See here (definition 1), for example, or here (definition 6). (Not all dictionaries include this technical definition!)
