What does that mean?

Please state the entire problem, so we can see what you want to do. An image of the problem, together with an attempted translation (assuming that is needed) and a description of what you are studying, will go a long way.

It seems to me that these matrices are only equal if a=b=0, unless something else is known. You certainly can't prove that the equation is always true.
