I tried to solve a) this question using similar triangles proportions but it didn't work.
Also for b), isn't the ratio supposed to be 1:1?

The picture clearly doesn't show them as equal.

Use the same pair of similar triangles, and write another proportion. If you understand what you did for (a), you should have no trouble with (b).

This is the same advice, essentially, as you were given there.

Can you explain why you are using the fact that FB=1 (after all 1-x + x=1)??
