The ratio of cats to dogs is 9 to 5. If 63 cats were present, how many dogs were there?

9 x 7 = 63
5 x 7 = 35

63 cats & 35 dogs?

I just started learning ratios. I wanted to know if I'm doing this right??

What you did is just fine! :D

Another method might be to note that, in 63, there are nine sets of seven, so the sets (parts) must represent sets of seven animals. Since the ratio is 9:5, then the five sets of dogs, having seven dogs each, must total thirty-five dogs.

Note: You can check your work. Does "63/35" simplify to "9/7"? If so, your ratio is correct.
