Use a General Strategy to Solve Linear Equations

5+7(2-5)=2(9x+1)-(13x-57)

5+14-35x=18x+2-13x-57

5+14-35x=18x-13x+2-57

19-35=5x-55

19-35x-5x=5x-5x=-55

19-19-30x=-55-19 (is this correct? I am getting confused as to whether i need to redistribute it as -30x+19-19=-55+19.. which gives me -1.2...)

-30x/-30=-74/30

x = 2.466

Correct answer should be -1.

I have done it about 3 other ways with different answers and still have not come to -1.
I have followed the steps, but don't know what i am messing up with.

Your first mistake is right there. That -57 should +57. You forgot to distribute the - sign.

There is an apparent typo in the first line. I suspect the second term is supposed to be 7(2 - 5x). You picked up the x in line 2, but in line 4 it disappeared again! ( I have corrected the error that LCKurtz mentioned.) If you put in the x in the second term as I guessed, 7(2 - 5x), you get the correct answer.
