Power Regression: for what is this used?

What exactly do we use power regression for?

Say a graph with no equation but with x and y coordinates and I use a power regression tool to tell me the equation. Is this accurate enough? Is this what we use power regression for?

One uses a power regression any time the data appears to be a good fit for such a regression. For instance, a data set that appeared to model a linear equation would not be a good candidate for a power regression.

The regression gives "an" equation. "The" equation might not exist (if the thing producing the data turns out to be random, or at least not consistent), or a power regression might be a good model, even "the best" model, only for a limited duration.

Whether or not a given regression "is accurate enough" will depend entirely upon the circumstances of the data set and the needs of the model.
