Given that P(E) = 0.30, P(F) = 0.40, P(E intersec F) = 0.1, then P(E union F) = ____.

My answer is 0.30 + 0.40 = 0.70. Is this right? Thanks as always for helping ans checking my answer.

1. 0.70
2. 0.60
3. 0.50
4. 0.40

\(\displaystyle P\left( {A \cup B} \right) = P(A) + P(B) - P\left( {A \cap B} \right)\)
This is the most basic fromula in all probability!
It must be in your text material.
Use it and redo this problem.

ok I think this is right.

0.30+0.40-0.1=.6 or 0.60. Thanks for showing me a better way. This place rocks and you guys are the best.
