An infant types three strokes on a keyboard. Assuming all of the characters he types were letters of alphabet, what is the probability that the characters that were struck were three consecutive letters in alphabetical order?

Would I use distributive property...?
 
There are C(26,3)=2600 hundred ways to choose 3 out of 26.

There are 24 ways to get 3 consecutive letters: ABC, BCD, CDE, DEF,...., XYZ.

Therefore, 24/2600=3/325
 
can the infant hit a letter more than once?

if it can then the prob is


\(\displaystyle \frac{24}{26^3}\)

Are you sure ... the answer i gave is close to your number

\(\displaystyle \frac{24}{26^3}=\frac{3}{2197}\)
