The question reads: "A basketball player made 73.2% of free throws, and the team is down by one point and this player goes to free throw line for 2 shots. Find probability that player makes both shots, team loses (misses both, in other words), and team ties."

Would I find these probabilities like this-a. P(X=2 given n=2, success=.732), b. P(X=0 given n=2,success=.732) and c. P(X=1 given n=2, success=.732), using binompdf on the TI 83?

let P=.732 , the probability of making a basket
then Q=.268 , the probability of missing a basket

[P+Q]=1
on 2 attempts we have:
[P+Q]^2=1^2
P^2 +2PQ +Q^2 =1

P^2 is two successes=[.732]^2 = .536
2PQ is one success and one failure =2[.732][.268]=.392
Q^2 is two misses=[.268][.268]=.072

probability of winning=53.6%
probability of a tie=39.2%
probability of losing=7.2%

The reason I set it up as I did, is because the entire chapter we are working with deals with binomial distributions and that is how all the problems in the chapter have been set up.

I do not have a TI85 so I attempted the problem as I would have done it for a student in a undergraduate course.
I hope you can use the result to redo the problem.
