Hi, and whoops!

You posted your request for help at the end of somebody else's discussion. In the future, please click on NEW TOPIC to start your own thread.

When we type fractions, we need to show clearly what's being divided by what.

Is everything after the fraction bar (/) in the denominator, or are the denominators just 4?

My guess is that both denominators are each 4. We show this clearly by putting parentheses around the fractional factors.

(3/4)(2x - 5) - (5/4)(3x + 9) = -6

[If I guessed wrongly because the denominators are supposed to be 4(2x-5) and 4(3x+9), then please let me know.]

OKAY -- Here's the first step: get rid of all of the fractions in this equation. Since both denominators are 4, multiplying both sides of the equation by 4 will cause those two denominators to cancel.

Can you do this step? Please show your work.

(Hint: The next step will be to use the Distributive Property to get rid of the parentheses.)
