Question: A person's height is x feet. Which expression represents the height in yards. 3X, X/3, or X+3. My answer was 3X, because 3 times 12 equals 1 yard. My answer was incorrect. Would someone tell me what the correct answer is and explain the process. Thanks MP

Hint: 1 yard = 3 feet; 15 feet = 5 yards...

Still don't know the process in finding the answer to my question. Thanks anyway.

Okay.. if 3 feet is 1 yard, then 9 feet is 3 yards, 12 feet is 4 yards, right?

To find the amount of yards from a given number of feet, divide by 3.

\(\displaystyle \frac{30ft}{3}=10 yards\)

So, your equation is \(\displaystyle \frac{x}{3}\)
