When to use binomial, Poisson and normal distribution - new member

Hey!
I'm studying estimation of parameters, but I'm really confused about when I have to use binomial, Poisson or normal distribution. Can someone please explain when I use each one of these distributions? Thank you
The simple answer is 'if it looks like that kind of distribution use that one' but more specifically, in looking at your data, there is a series of questions which need answering in order to determine what kind of distribution might be appropriate. The page
