I know there are people on this site that have no math degree but can answer questions beyond calculus. How can this be? I know people with a math degree that cannot multiply let alone do algebra. How can this be?

I am confused.

It is not so mysterious a thing to be in either group you have identified.

Some folks have a natural affinity for such things. Some folks have forgotten much of what they used to know. Some folks are very bold in wandering off into areas they believe to be interesting. Some folks are afraid to sneeze without someone else's permission. Some folks are natural teachers and love to explain. Other folks know stuff but would rather have a root canal than try to explain it to someone.

There are all types and all capacities, nearly everywhere you look.
