I assume these are systems of equations (if not, the remainder of my post does not apply to your question, in which case you should add some clarification).
For the first set, try using some of the common techniques for solving equational systems (i.e. substitution, addition/subtraction).
For instance, in the method of substitution, if you had the following system of equations: { x + y = 3, y = 4x -12}, you could substitute the value of y (in terms of x) from the second equation into the first equation. That is, you would obtain x + (4x - 12) = 3, from which you would find that 5x = 15, and so x = 3. Hence, re-substituting this value of x into either equation would allow you to now find y! Therefore, you have found both of your unknowns.
