1. Two angles are complements and one is 18 degrees less then the other. What are the angles? 53+37=90

2. Two angles are complements and one lacks 8 degrees of being twice the other. What are the angles? 38+52=90

3. Two angles are complements and one is 19 degrees more than three times the other. What are the angles? 19+72=90

No, I know what a complementary angle is. It's when the sum of angles (2 or more) is equal to that of a right angle (90 degrees). That's not that problem.

Ok then; here's the set-up for your 1st exercise:

1. Two angles are complements and one is 18 degrees less then the other. What are the angles?

Let one angle = a; then other angle = a - 18.

Those 2 angles total 90, from the definition.

So a + (a - 18) = 90: now solve.

You're wrong by the way. YOUR answer would be 18+72=92 Does that sound right? Well, yes it does that is correct addition HOWEVER, you need to pay more attention to the question. the answer is 53+37=90. Maybe you should watch your actions before making fun of people to make sure the joke isn't actually on you.

Actually, no; the solution to the equation the tutor provided you is "a = 54".

It looks like you might need to do some review of background material.

Thank you.

Sorry, but no: all 3 are wrong. For instance, let's look at your 1st answer: is 53 - 37 equal to 18?

In each case below, solve for n and also plug it into the portion located in parentheses.

1. one is 18 degrees less then the other
example:
n + (n-18) = 90
2n - 18 = 90
2n = 108
n=54
(n-18)=36
angles are 54 and 36

2. one lacks 8 degrees of being twice the other
n + (2n-8) = 90

3. one is 19 degrees more than three times the other
n + (3n+19) = 90
