Advice needed

Hi everybody,

I could use some advice.

I am just finishing up junior college, I only need 18 credits over the Spring and Summer semesters in order to graduate with a near 4.0.

I earned an A in Calculus I and am getting a very high A in Calculus II as the semester draws towards a close.

For the upcoming Spring semester, I must take Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Speech (14 credit hours). Because of the class schedules, the availability of classes over the summer, and other reasons, I have to take these classes or postpone graduation and stay in junior college an extra semester, Fall of 2015.

So is it feasible to take those 3 math classes in the same semester? I heard that Calc III and Differential Equations are both easier than Calc II. I also heard that I should be terrified of Linear Algebra. It is supposed to be really, really hard.

So can a straight A student handle this course load, or should I just be patient and stay in junior college an extra semester?

I would appreciate as much detail as you can give in your answer. If I keep my GPA up close to 4.0 where it is now I get scholarships at the next university I attend. Bad grades could cost me scholarship money. It seems like a tough decision to make. Please advise.

Different institutions teach different material at different rates and in different ways. There is no "standard" difficulty "rating" for these courses. The advice of fellow students who have recently taken these courses at your particular school are probably best situated to advise you on this topic.

That said, calculus is generally regarded as a prerequisite to differential equations, so taking Calc III and Diff-EQ at the same time might be problemmatic. If you have a professor who knows you and in whom you have trust, I'd go have a serious talk with him/her.

Either way, good luck in your studies! ;)
