algebra for Physics - equation straight line re graph formula

it has been yrs since i have done any algebra for physics like 30yrs...
not sure if i have the concept right.
if P=17.1R2 solve for P if R=39.2 I understand this to be.... P=17.1(39.2(2))
so if I got this figured correctly then P= 26276.544 transforming this sci notation it would 2.62X10E4
How am i doing with this one....Please advise

I am guessing that you mean

[MATH]p = 17.1 r^2[/MATH] written inline as p = 17.1 * r^2.

[MATH]\therefore r = 39.2 \implies p = 17.1 * 39.2^2 = 26,276.544 \approx 2.63 * 10^4[/MATH].

For the future, this is more arithmetic than algebra. And what is the relevance of straight line: the graph of this formula (if I figured it out correctly) is a curve, a parabola to be exact.[/MATH]

that is what I essentially figured out it is straight line re graph. I got 2.62x10^4...but then i never rounded up...pay attention to detail...Thanks jeff i think i am on the right track just pay attention to detail...

P is a variable trying to solve for, R is the another ^2. i got it figured out...p=17.1r2p=17.1r2 written inline as p = 17.1 * r^2. it is a graph, but not a straight line, its a curve as indicated by another individual. thanks for looking at this.
