I have $1,361.04 that must be split between 40 people, but not evenly. Depending on how many months you are on a plan that would be the amount you get.

Example: If you are on the plan one month then you don't get the full split. It is pro-rated. What would be the formula to figure this out?

I have $1,361.04 that must be split among 40 people. The amount would be pro-rated based on 1 year. I have some employees that should only get 1 month and others that should get 5 months. What calculation can I use?

Add up the months that everyone worked. Divide that sum into 1361.04. That is what each month is worth. For each employee, multiply that employee's months of employment by what a month is worth. This an example of a weighted mean. Do you understand?

So I would add up how many months 40 people worked? Example Person worked for 12 months, 2nd person worked for 2 months and so on.

Suppose only two people worked - then you divide 1361.04 by 14 (= 12+2) and you get 97.2174

then your first person who worked for 12 months gets (97.2174 * 12 =1166.606) $1166.61

and the second person who worked for 2 months gets (97.2174 * 2 =194.4343) $194.43

check 1166.61 + 194.43 = 1361.04

When I add up all the months of all the people it equates to 295 months but when I divide it into the 1361.04 it does not add up.

When you divide 295 into 1361.04 you get something like 4.613694915254 per month.

If you round this result to 4.61 before you use it to multiply, then the amounts that you get for the 40 people might not add up as you expect because you lost 0.003694915254 per month by rounding too soon.

Let your calculator retain all of the digits and then multiply.

Otherwise, if your issue is something else, please rephrase the issue. Perhaps, show some examples of what numbers you're using and what you're doing with them.

Cheers
