Hello. Why does NOPLAT-(NOPLAT-IR) = NOPLAT(1-IR)

I get the math behind it when I put real numbers into it (that is, it foots) but why does this work and what is the property called? Thanks.

These aren't actually equal. On the left-hand side, you have:

. . . . .x - (x - y) = x - x + y = y

On the right-hand side, you have:

. . . . .x(1 - y) = x - xy

These are not the same. ;)

Did you mean to write:

[h=2]basic math problem: Why does NOPLAT-(NOPLAT*IR) = NOPLAT(1-IR)[/h]Here '*' means multiply.

Thanks

Use numbers:
8 - (8 - 3) = 8 - 8 + 3 = 3
No brackets:
8 - 8 - 3 = -3

-(8 - 3) is a multiplication by -1: -1(8 - 3) = -8 + 3
The "1" is not shown (it's there by default.
Same as ALL integers are fractions : 8 is really 8/1;
again, the "1" is not shown...

Got it. Thank you!!
