[A cistern is normally filled in 8 hours. But takes 2 hours longer to fill because of a leak in its bottom. If the cistern is full, the leak will empty it in how many hours?] I’m confused on how to create an equation to start solving this problem.

You need to calculate the time to empty the cistern. there are several ways to get that. One way would be to calculate the flow-rate-out from the cistern.

Assume that the volume of the cistern is V and it takes T hours to empty it. ................... continue..............
