Divide 2x^3 - 6x^2 + 3x - 10 by x - 3. The result is

would this be the answer?

2x^2 + x + 3 + 1/(x - 3)

(2x^3 - 6x^2 + 3x - 10)/(x - 3)

The remainder is -1 and how did you get that x term?

I get

2x^2 + 3 - [1/(x-3)]

Almost!

I get 2x2 + 3 -1/(x-3).

I used long division, but you may have used a different method. In either case, if you post your working we can help you a bit better (I know writing long division on these forums can be difficult, but we'll understand it :)).
