For (a)

6 - 4 = 2 and

6 * 4 =24

for (b)

(x+y)² = x²+ y² + 2*x*y → (4 + h)² = 4² +h² + 2*4*h

You are going into Calculus - these algebraic identities should be "tattooed" on your hand !!
