Prove similar triangles: \(\displaystyle \Delta ABE \approx \Delta ACD\).
Use corresponding parts.

Assuming BE is parallel to CD:

1--Let DE = x
2--9/6 = 12/(x + 6) producing x = 2.
3--Let BE = y
4--9/12 = y/7 producing y = BE = 5.25.
