Could you please review this iOS mathematics app?

Posted on behalf of @MasterX :

I am an iOS developer and I created the Numerical Solver app, which solves any algebraic equation numerically. I am about to release version 1.1, but, before I do I would like to get the feedback from someone who is an expert in mathematics.
Thank you in advanced for your time

Hi @MasterX,

Welcome to the
freeMATHhelp forum.
(Apologies for the current situation where you can't post your own queries.)

When I followed your link it took me to the "App Store" but, since I consider Apple to be the world's biggest organised crime group, I won't touch anything from them with a ten foot barge pole!

So I had a look on Google Play and, as soon as I started typing: "n u m e r ...", "numerical solver app" was offered as an option, which I accepted. A (quite long) list of possible candidates was produced (including "Maple", which happens to be what I use if I feel the need for an app to assist my Algebra) but yours was not among them.

If you restrict yourself to Apple only devices then you are excluding a very large proportion of the population that might benefit from your app; will an Android version become available?

If I'd had access to your app I might have entered: 3a+2a=35  (aZ)\displaystyle 3^a+2^a=35\;(a\in \mathbb{Z}) as a test. Solving for a, is of course, a piece of cake (by simple iteration) but, although Maple does give the answer(s) right away, it cannot provide an algebraic solution (which ain't easy, ofc). It does illustrate the solution graphically but it doesn't show the user how to arrive at the answer(s).

Can your app deal with problems like the above? And, more importantly, does it show how solutions are arrived at? (What kind of algorithms does it employ to get its answers?)

Is your app (completely) free? Is it (entirely) free from (really annoying) advertising?

Most people like me believe that knowledge shouldn't be monetized; Euclid, Euler & Einstein weren't in it for the money (I don't think any of them died rich men. 🤷‍♂️). You've come to a (free) forum where members provide their time & expertise completely free of charge; I do hope you don't want us to help you cash in on people's need for the kind of help we freely provide. 🤔

Hope that helps. 😊

PS: I don't think you can add anything to this thread yet (other than a "
Like", lol) unless or until you (eventually) gain moderator approval but, if you wish to respond in any way, just post something in the original conversation and someone will post your contribution back in this thread for you. 😉👌

I don't know if it shows up like this for everyone, but when I click the Screenshots on the website, the images are extremely poor resolution bordering on unreadable. The largest version accessible in the HTML via Inspect is much better. That's all I have to say. I don't have an IPAD.

That's because the images are stored as "thumbnails" on the website so even accessing (the site's source code) via Inspect will only get you the thumbnail versions of the images.

Here are the full size images of the screenshots pulled down off Apple's image server (if they're of any interest to anyone)...

NB: You have to be logged in to see them in full size here too, lol. (Same problem.) 🤣

3. system_ipad.png

Hope that helps. 😊

Or, you can just click on these links without logging in... 😉

NB: If, when the image opens in your browser, you click on the magnifying glass (to see the full size version), you may just see white space! That's because the images are so big and you're focussed on the middle of one (which is just white space). Just scroll up or down to the top or bottom to see the text.
