Descrbe the set of natural numbers less than 40 that are divisible by 4 using set-builder notation

{x/x=n<40,n/4,n N}

Hello Future Whiz:

I would start by looking up the definition of "set-builder notation".

You can use the GGG* to search the WWW using the quoted phrase above for key words. Check out some examples.

Next, understand some basic notation for sets and divisibility. For example:

\(\displaystyle \;\; n \in \mathbb{N} \;\;\) means "n is a natural number"
-or more properly- "n is an element of the set of natural numbers.

\(\displaystyle \;\; 4|n \;\;\) means "four divides n" -or- "n is divisible by 4".

Do you know what means "n is less than 40" ?

Put it all together using the template that you see from the examples of set-builder notation.

Come back here if you have any specific questions; show whatever you are able to do.

In the future, please show your work and explain what you're thinking about a given exercise in your initial post(s). For more information on this, please read the post titled "Read Before Posting".

Cheers,

~ Mark :)

* Great God Google

MY EDIT: added better reading of set-inclusion symbol

When you reply (as directed in the previous response), kindly please turn off "Caps Lock", as there is no need to SHOUT. Thank you! :wink:
