Very strange wording. When it is stated that the aircraft is on x = 3, there is no reference for the rest of the locations int he problem statement. What if the airport is at (9,7)? Then what does the problem mean? You should define things up front.
One a Cartesian Coordinate system, and air port is at the Origin. A radar station is at (5,8). The jet flies alone x = 3, in the positive y-direction.
