(2x-6)/(21) divide (5x-15)(12)

I simplfied it

2(x-3) 5(x-3)
--------divide-----------
21 12

Then I'll flip it

2(x-3) 12
--------X-----------
21 5(x-3)

cancel somethings out

2 12
----X-------
21 5

I can reduce it to

2 3
--X---
7 5

then I'm not sure?????

(2x-6)/21 divided by (5x-15)/12 =

2(x-3)/21 divided by 5(x-3)/12 =

2(x-3)/21 * 12/[5(x-3)] =

(2*3*4)/(21*5) = (2*4)/(7*5) = 8/35

I'm guessing that your posts aren't displaying in your browser (how confusing for you!), since you seem unaware that your multi-line and spacebar formatting is not working.

You might want to try following the instructions explained in "Karl's Notes" (the link is included in the "Forum Help" pull-down menu at the very top of every forum page, and is mentioned in the "Read Before Posting" thread you read). Also, you might want to try using the "Preview" setting, so you can get your messages looking sensible before posting!

I think your steps are something along the lines of the following:

. . . . .[ (2x - 6) / 21 ] / [ (5x - 15) / 12 ]

. . . . .[ (2(x - 3)) / 21 ] * [ 12 / (5(x - 3)) ]

. . . . .[ 2 / 7 ] * [ 3 / 5 ]

If so, then note that fractions are multiplied by multiplying numerators by numerators and denominators by denominators.

Thank you! :D
