I need to answer this for homework.. I don't even know what kind of problem it is, so I don't think I'm posting on the right board, or thread... forgive me I'm confused.

If whoever decides to help me out on this has the time, could they please explain to me what this is, and how to slove it? thanks.

4/5 = 24/b

Re: HELP, please?

4/5 = 24/b

This is a proportion. In a true proportion, the product of the means is equal to the product of the extremes. Your proportion looks like this.

\(\displaystyle \frac{4}{5}= \frac{24}{b}\)

Solve for b. (Find the value of b so that the proportion tells the truth.

You might google "means and extremes" and/or "proportion".

Re: HELP, please?

4/5 = 24/b

That means there is a number that we're looking for: 24 divided by that number will equal 4/5;
we temporarily let that number be represented by the letter "b": your job is to find out what number b stands for.

Say we had 1/2 = 5/b : that would be easy, since you can "see" that 1/2 = 5/10, so b = 10 : kapish :?:
But teachers are "mean", and "always make sure" they don't come up with something easy :!:

what's up RockNRollstew !
Your problem is 4/5= 24/b
how many times does 4 go into 24?
when you find that out multiply that number by 5 to get the value of b.
hope this helps :)
