The electric field between two parallel plates connected to 45\displaystyle 45-V\displaystyle \text{V} battery is 1500 V/m\displaystyle 1500 \ \text{V/m}. How far apart are the plates?

The relation between electric field and potential is given by:

E=Vr\displaystyle E = \frac{V}{r}

Solving for the distance gives:

r=VE=451500=0.03 m=3 cm\displaystyle r = \frac{V}{E} = \frac{45}{1500} = 0.03 \ \text{m} = \textcolor{blue}{3 \ \text{cm}}
