Factoring word problem: dimensions, given perim, area

hey I am stuck on this problem and I cant find any resorces to help me out.

A rectangle has a perimeter of 42m and area of 104m^2, find its demensions.

I cant understand how to find the dementions if they do not tell you how much longer the length is than the width.

You could let
x = length
and
y = width

Now...you are given two FACTS about the rectangle. One involves the perimeter, and one involves the area. See if you can use the variables defined above to write two equations.

If you are still having trouble, please repost showing your work, so we can see where your difficulties lie.

Do you use the formula p=2l+2w and a= l X w
those are the formulas i got but from there i dont know how im supposed to factor it
