Find the related function

I'm totally lost how to find the related function here. I don't understand how to find y when it's not in the first function at all:

Not being able to see your class notes or your textbook, I can't compare this to the worked examples you've been given. All I can do is guess.

My guess would be that they're wanting you to relate a given function's y-value for certain x-value(s) to another function's zeroes for the same x-value(s).

For instance, f = 10x = 7 for some x-value, while g = 10x - 7 = 0 for the same x-value.

But that's just a guess....
