I do not pretend know French - thus cannot spot your error.
You don't need. The error could be spotted from the moon.

père (father) is masculine and say for example mère (mother) is feminine

Le is used for masculine, so we say Le père (The father)
La is used for feminine, so we say La mère (The mother)

If you say La père and you are an expert like me, it means one of two things:

It's either I am losing my French magical touches

Or

My last breakfast was a samosa😭

I studied French in high school and have been to France many times.
(It’s just across a narrow channel from us.)

American stores are big.

The definite article would be dropped in English and we would probably say “big” rather than “large”.
