If a cardboard tube is cut vertically it is a rectangle. what is the surface area of a cardboard tube that is 4 inches long with a circumference of 5 inches?;)

1) You must show your work.
2) Showing your work may explain what is wanted.

Inside and outside surface area? Is it cut?

Take a cardboard tube (paper toel or toilet paper) and think of the following:

What does circumference mean?

What does length of the tube mean?

Now take a pair of scissors and cut the tube vertically - and flatten it.

Does it become a rectangle? - It should!!!

If yes, then:

What is the relationship between the length of the tube and the length of the rectangle?

What is the relationship between the circumference of the tube and the width of the rectangle?

What is the area of the rectangle?

If you are unable to begin any work, then please provide some statements about why or where you are stuck. At the very least, we need to know what you're thinking.

What is it specifically that you do not understand?

Also, please read our Forum Guidelines for more information about how to ask for help.

Cheers
