Identify which of the following statements is an inappropriate generalization.

a. If two shapes have congruent corresponding angles, then they are congruent.

b. If two shapes are congruent, then they are similar.

c. If two shapes are similar, then their corresponding sides are proportional.

d. If two shapes are congruent, then their corresponding sides are congruent.

e. If two shapes are similar, then their corresponding angles are congruent.

would the answer be b?

No.... Why do you think (b) is inappropriate.

because if two shapes are congruent how can they be similar?

If two shapes are congruent (say triangles) - the angles are also congruent - and that makes them similar.

It's 'a' - because congruent corresponding angles ensure that the figures are SIMILAR. Similar shapes need not be congruent.

Two polygons are congruent if their corresponding sides are congruent
and their corresponding angles are congruent. Is that true? Then how is it 'a'?

For congruency - two conditions must be satisfied. Statement(a) satisfies only one condition.

These are exercize of careful reading, analysis and comprehension.
