there are 3 pails, 6 shovels 2 beach balls. how many more shovels are there than pails and beach balls?

is it the pails + the balls...........? if so then 1 because 3 pails + 2 balls = 5
6 shovels - 5 = 1

Hello, Koslik!

There are 3 pails, 6 shovels 2 beach balls.
How many more shovels are there than pails and beach balls?

Line them up in two rows . . .

. . \(\displaystyle \begin{array}{cccccc}\cup & \cup & \cup & \bigcirc & \bigcirc\\ \\
| & | & | & | & | & | \\ [-2mm]
\Delta & \Delta & \Delta & \Delta & \Delta & \Delta \end{aray}\)

There is one more shovel.
