I am having trouble finding the derivative.

f(x) = [x + (1/x)][(x^2) - (1/x^2)]

Thanks!

A good first step would be to multiply things out. How far have you gotten with that?

Eliz.

I multiplied the two terms together:

(x^6 + x^4 - x^2 - 1)/ (x^3)

then took the derivative, but i'm not getting the answer thats in the back of the book.

How did x2 times x equal x6?

Please reply showing your steps. Thank you.

Eliz.
