Can you help me I can't find an example in my book?

y = mx + b is the equation; you know that, right?

since the slope m = -4/3, then y = -4x/3 + b [1]; ok?

now we need to find b; to do that, substitute x=3 and y=-5 in [1]:
-5 = -4(3)/3 + b
-5 = -4 + b
b = -5 + 4 = -1

Now rewrite [1]: y = -4x/3 - 1 ; all ok?

Hello, latresa31s!

Write the equation of the line with slope = –(4/3) and passes through point (3, –5)
Are you familiar with the Point-Slope Formula?
. . [I note that many books and teachers don't teach it . . . why?]

Given a line through point \(\displaystyle (x_1,y_1)\) with slope \(\displaystyle m\)

. . the equation is: .\(\displaystyle y\,-\,y_1\;= \;m(x\,-\,x_1)\)

Just drop your numbers in . . .
