Please help US out! What have you tried, and where are you stuck? Are there some options you know are right, but others you aren't sure of?

 
(1 + 2 + 3 + .... + up to what number) - (6 + 7 + 8 + ... + up to what number)

Most of the numbers will cancel out. It simple subtraction once you five out where the two terms above ends.

Or just add the numbers in pairs: (1-6) + (2-7) + ...

That first question, of course, can't have two answers!

For the second problem, how many times do you multiply by the common ratio between the indicated terms?

There can be two answers, because they are written in different forms, so two might have the same value.
