I have a midterm exam and have about 20 questions i need to know, i only need help with a few. In quotation is what my professor has asked.

1) "Apply a Babylonian approximation technique"
I dont have a clue onto what this means, the book only refers to their approximation of square root of two, but now how to do it

2) "Prove a certain algebraic identity by the greek geometic method"
What is the greek geometic method? I understand that they were able to do many calculations of find the sides of triangles etc.

Thanks again for your help

If these topics were not covered in class and are not mentioned in your text, then I would suggest researching a math-history text or site, and making a guess as to what might be meant.

If these topics were covered in class and/or the text, please provide the definition(s) they gave you.

Thank you.

Eliz.
