Even if you mean \(\displaystyle \frac{2}{5}i\text{ or }\frac{2}{5i}\) there is nothing to solve.

One solves equations. That is not an equation!

Do you mean 2/(5i) or 2/5 times i ?

And what do you mean by "solving" ?

This is why I asked the question? I have no idea what my teacher is looking for Her instructions were to solve for the following and leave in the simplest form... perhaps there is an error with the instructions but the first problem is
2/5i. My guess is that your first suggestion is correct.

:-? Thank you so much for your nonobnoxious reply. I posted the question the way it was presented in a homework assingment. Obviously you agree with me in that it makes no sense so I'm just going to assume it's an error.

You are not understanding our requests or comments.

\(\displaystyle 2/5i = \frac{2}{5}i.\) Is that the expression you must deal with, or did you mean to write \(\displaystyle 2/(5i) = \dfrac{2}{5i}.\)

At this point, we cannot even be sure what expression is involved.

As has been pointed out before, there is NOTHING to solve. So your teacher cannot have asked you to do that. We need the EXACT wording of the problem. Were the instructions given orally? In that case, you appear to have written them down incorrectly. If the instructions are in writing, please give us the exact wording. In any case, clarify whether you mean 2/(5i) or (2/5)i. By the way, it would help us to know what topic you are currently studying, roots, rationalization, complex numbers, etc.

I doubt she said "solve for the following"- unless there was some other problem for which this is the solution.

To simplify 2/(5i), "rationalize the denominator"- multiply both numerator and denominator by i.
