How can ten trees be arranged in five rows, with four trees in each row?[/u]

Hello, av111!

This is a classic (old) puzzle . . .

How can ten trees be arranged in five rows, with four trees in each row?
Code:
            *

       *         *

         *     *
Draw a pentagon and draw the five diagonals.

Plant the trees at the vertices and the intersections of the diagonals.

If you're not sure how the above solution gives "rows", take your pen and draw the classic five-pointed "drawn without lifting your pen from the paper" star. Then draw heavy dots at the crossing-points of the lines you just drew, and also heavy dots at the corners.

You should be able clearly to "see" the five lines, and your (inner) dots should match those in the above picture.

Eliz.
