1. If an executive invests $25,000, some at 8% and some at 6% annual interest. If he receives an annual return of $1700, how much is invested at each rate?

2. Some bank robbers leave town, speeding at 71 mph. Nine minutes later, the police give chase, traveling at 80 mph. How long will it take after the robbery for the police to overtake the robbers? (round your answer to 3 decimal places) you have to convert it into a mixed number then that into a decimal

Where are you stuck?

Please show how far you have gotten. What part has you stuck? What have you tried so far.

To offer a small hint, when the cops catch the robbers, they will have both traveled the same distance. How can you calculate how far they went?

Well I finally figured out how to do number 1. On the second one I set it up as t-9/60=t-6

then plugged in 71t=80(t-1/6)
71t=80t-40/3
moved 80t over so, -9t=-40/3
t=40/27
after I got that i converted it into a mixed number then got a decimal place but the answer is still wrong. I'm not sure where I'm messing up. I've plugged in so many answers but they all end up wrong.

Ok.

I think (T-9)/60 represents the 9 minute head start. Great

I'm not sure about the T-6? What does that represent?

In words, how can you calculate how far the robbers got?
