There are 3 types of different problems. How would I solve:
N - 3/8 = 1/6

B - 1-1/2 = 4-1/4

1/3N = 2/9

Thanks for any help.

To solve linear equations, undo whatever has been done to the variable. For instance:

. . . . .x + 5 = 3
. . . . .x + 5 - 5 = 3 - 5
. . . . .x = -2

. . . . .3x = 5
. . . . .(3x)/3 = (5)/3
. . . . .x = 5/3

. . . . .5 - 2x = 3
. . . . .5 - 5 - 2x = 3 - 5
. . . . .-2x = -2
. . . . .(-2x)/(-2) = (-2)/(-2)
. . . . .x = 1

...and so forth. Apply that process to your exercises.

Note: These are called "one-step" linear equations. You're either adding/subtracting something to/from both sides, or multiplying/dividing both sides by something. The only wrinkle here is that you should probably simplify the numerical parts of your second equation before proceeding, to make you life a little simpler.

If you get stuck, please reply showing what you have tried. Thank you.

In case you forgot how to add fractions:

1/5 + 1/7

= 7/35 + 5/35 : 35 is lowest common multiple of denominators

= 12/35
