A train approaches Chicago union station at 114/ centimetres per second. a passenger is strolling forward along the train at 36/ centimeters per second eating a hamburger at 2 centimeters per second. A insect is walking away from his mouth on the burger at 1 centimeters per second. How fast is the insect approaching Chicago union station?

Let's orient our coordinate axis such that towards Chicago union station is positive. Which of the 4 velocities is positive and which is negative?
 
The question is how it was written on a puzzle sheet, i am confused but i think they will all be travelling the same way.
 
The train is moving towards the station, so as we've defined it, that will be positive velocity. The passenger is strolling forward, so his velocity, relative to the train, is also positive. The burger is in front of the man moving towards him so that will be away from the station, or negative. The bug is moving towards the front of the train, so this is positive velocity. What do you get when you add them all up?
